Sheridan is a town in the United States. It is located in Adams Township, Hamilton County, Indiana, and in 2010, it was home to a population of 2,665. The town covers an area of 2.144 square miles.
At one point, Sheridan IN was the second largest town in Hamilton County. The land where it lies was once owned by George Boxley. Boxley was a merchant hailing from Virginia who fled to Sheridan to escape bounty hunters; as he was believed to function as an abolitionist who spearheaded the rebellion by slaves in the year 1815. This historic town has witnessed a significant rise in the population in recent years due to substantial development. It is challenging to trace back the origins of the town, which was called Millwood then, and the records of the town were destroyed in a fire in 1913. The fire caused substantial damage to the town hall and several other buildings.
It is popularly believed that the town was started by Egbert Higbee in the year 1860, but there isn’t adequate documentation to support these claims. Higbee was born in Ohio, and he established a town that he named Millwood near the district school in Adams Township. This land was acquired by him in parcels, and in 1866, he filed his town plat, and the lots were sold off to merchants. Sheridan is situated about 30 miles north of Indianapolis, where Indiana Highways 38 and 47 intersect. There are two airports that serve Sheridan, the Sheridan Airport and the Indianapolis Executive Airport.
Visitors to Sheridan Indiana can drop by the Stuckey Farm Orchard and Cider Mil to pick 27 different varieties of apples or browse through Indiana produce and grab some yummy cider for the road.
