Zionsville is a suburban town that is situated in Boone County, Indiana, United States, on the northwestern side of Indianapolis. According to the 2010 census, the area houses about 14,160 people, and this number has doubled to 28,357 in the 2019 estimates.
It was in the year 1852 that Zionsville was first established, at which point the railroad was extended to that point. Its name can be traced back to William Zion, who was a pioneer settler. In 1861, it witnessed a whistle-stop speech by Abraham Lincoln when he was traveling to his inauguration. In the year 1983, Town Hall (Castle Hall) was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Indianapolis Executive Airport (KTYQ) is located nearby, and it is essentially a reliever airport for Indianapolis International Airport. On the other hand, the Lafayette and Indianapolis Railroad line that passes through Zionsville was owned by several companies since it was established in 1852 and before it was abandoned in 1976. In the 1990s, this railroad line was refurbished to be used as a shared use path.
Culturally, there are several sites to see here. The Sullivan Munce Cultural Center is an art center, genealogy center, and museum located in the neighborhood, and it demonstrates the town’s rich history along with its major artifacts. Each year, the Sullivan Munce Cultural Center hosts the Ghost Walk, which is a tour across the town wherein the history of Zionsville is narrated.
Zionsville is a major tourist attraction, and the downtown area in particular is looks like a village – with a Main Street that is made up of bricks, and several cozy retail stores and restaurants. One of the most popular pubs in north Indy is The Friendly Tavern, a bustling neighborhood pub serving excellent burgers and other classic American fare.
